Description
Location: The Art Gallery at Agnes Cultural Center
Maria Adlercreutz (1936–2014) sought through her images to make events visible and immortalize them in tapestry, highlighting moments she believed must not be forgotten by the world. She was deeply politically engaged, using her art to shed light on injustices around the globe.
Her best-known work, In Her Eyes the People’s Light is Preserved (started in 1968, completed January 1972), features two press photos of the North Vietnamese FNL activist Le Thi Rieng. One of the images was taken shortly before she was abducted by the U.S. army and later executed.
Gävle Art Center not only presents Adlercreutz’s tapestries but also her sketches, shown here in a way never seen before.
