The Norrlandet seaside hiking trail

The Norrlandet seaside hiking trail is approximately 15 km long and stretches between Engeltofta and Marskärsudden. You can choose to hike the entire trail or just parts of it.

The Norrlandet seaside hiking trail is a 15 km route stretching between Engeltofta and Marskärsudden. You can choose to walk the full trail or explore selected sections.

The trail takes you through varied natural landscapes, from rural manor houses and summer homes to deep forests and culturally significant buildings. It follows a mix of roads, gravel paths and narrow forest trails, with terrain ranging from gently sloping paths to steep and uneven ground. Along the way, there are detours leading to beaches and headlands with stunning sea views – Gråberget is one such popular spot, offering a magical view of the coastline.

There are 13 information boards along the trail showing the route, barbecue areas, swimming spots and locations of summer toilets.

If you're looking for a scenic spot to enjoy lunch or a coffee break, Soludden, Utvalnäs udde and Marskärsudden are great places to stop. Don’t forget to bring your own firewood.

Trail sections
If you prefer to hike just a part of the trail, here are four suggested sections:

– Marskärsudden – Gråberget, approx. 3 km
Take the bus to Utvalnäs Rännavägen to begin your hike at Marskärsudden. This section consists of wide gravel walking paths and smaller roads.

– Gråberget, approx. 3.5 km
Take the bus to Bönan or Ångbåtsbryggan to start from the southern or northern end of Gråberget. This section follows a narrow forest path through hilly terrain, with rocks, fallen trees and roots along the way. Several viewpoints offer fantastic views of the sea.

– Bönan – Huseliiharen, approx. 5.5 km
Take the bus to Bönan to begin the hike towards Huseliiharen. This section features wide gravel paths and smaller roads. Some viewpoints are less accessible. Along the way, you’ll pass manor houses, summer villas and leisure homes. You’ll also pass Lizzy’s lime tree – Gävle’s only protected natural monument.

– Huseliiharen – Engeltofta, approx. 6 km
Take the bus to Huseliiharen to start your walk towards Engeltofta. This section includes wide gravel paths and smaller roads. Some viewpoints are less accessible.
