Description
Location: The Studio and Creative Workshop, 3rd floor, Agnes Cultural Center
Drop-in workshop in connection with the Weaving Fair in Gävle
Weave on a truly old loom with cotton heddles, reed, and beater. Tread, throw the shuttle, and beat! Feel a sense of connection with all those who have sat there before, placing their hand on the beater and weaving in both dreams and disappointments. Treading correctly is not as easy as it looks.
Try winding bobbins of weft yarn with the help of a spinning wheel and load a shuttle. Harder than you might think – it takes hands, feet, and brain working together. In the past, this was a common task for children on the farm.
Old yarn winders – how are they used? Making a ball of yarn by hand is not as easy as it seems; they often want to escape.
Learn how to tie cotton heddles using a reef knot and a heddle rod – a good way to organize your warp ends while also saving the environment.
Try threading a very fine reed together with a partner. How difficult is it really?
And don’t miss the chance to test yourself and your friends – what do you know about household handicrafts through the ages? Unpack the bridal chest and place the contents in the correct time period.
The workshop is arranged in collaboration with ABF Gästrikebygden, led by Susanne Hansen.
